Upon clicking "create post", instead of seeing my reply in the thread Ive been redirected to another page telling me Ive won a free IPhone and asking me to input personal info. Aside from the fact that I simply don't trust those things and assume they are phishing. my AV program is telling me its malicious.
No clue if its something you guys set up or if its forced on you by proboards or what. Its not happening every time but has occurred 3 or 4 times so far today and only when making a post here. Its not occurring at all when I simply browse the web or post on other forums.

Admin sounds fishy. no, it's not something we would impose on members, I'm fairly sure proboards wouldn't secrete something like that (it's passive on-screen adverts and that's it). in all the posts I've created - in the past, and today - I've not come across it. me being iOS/Safari might protect me from whatever malware is kicking in..?? thanks for letting us know dd. admin knows proboards better than I, so I'll let him respond... it'll be tomorrow though. whether @greygoose or klizy - both being PC, and more fluent in gobbledegook than I - can offer any info on this, I'm not sure.

No worries mate I know you guys wouldn't intentionally do something like that. Didn't intend to imply or have anyone infer that I thought you guys are phishing. sorry if it was taken that way.
My AVP has been blocking some background content from this site all day, which has never happened here at all before. I assume its one of the background ads and thought maybe you guys have some control over which ads are chosen.

no, we don't get any control over which adverts are shown. there have been problems with certain adverts in the past, which did knock the forum offline for periods at a time. so it may be something connected to a new ad, if it's an issue that has only cropped up in the last day or so.

I've never seen that. Is it only happening on this site ? Which browser are you using ? I don't think Admin has any control on the ads if it's one of them causing this, but Proboards should be able to do something.

I can confirm that is nothing to do with us! Sometimes the adverts from proboards have a dodgy one and they are soon removed once reported. Is this still happening? If it is, could you get me a screen shot and I'll get in touch with proboards to get it removed. ( Proboards actually do their adverts through another company so they then have to report to them. )

Three different mods quickly addressing a member's problem and following up? What's going on around here? This doesn't make sense! Oh wait, this isn't the official forum. Never mind.

It was happening thru both IE and whatever the heck the name of the new MS browser is. Was only here but seems to have cleared up.
Thanks for the follow up rez, klizy,Admin,

...even though the forum's main page has changed. It used to show me a couple of subforums' threads when I wasn't logged in, now all the subforums say I need to log in, but that's actually not true as of now. The shoutbox is visible to the public as well, by the way.

I'll have to go and check. I haven't changed anything for a long time regarding access. Maybe there's a gremlin about. EDIT1: This board has always been open to the public and should be the only one. This was in case someone was having trouble logging in. EDIT2: The shoutbox is visible to guests but they can not post. Do you think it should be hidden? It's a few minutes work to hide it so not a problem if you think so.

I don't see a problem with people getting a view of the shoutbox. It gives them a small look at what we're about before registering. It should be well known that what you write in it is public though.

Shoutbox is often idle for 8 hours+ at a time. While not a problem per se, it may give the appearance of a lack of activity.
Good point about this area of forum being public with respect to login issue Admin, I suppose it applies to the guest post as well.

Agreed with db and the other db. As for the inactive shoutbox, maybe that's a good filter. If you're looking for a community where people post screenshots of their latest car 24/7, maybe go elsewhere.

slightly bitchy*, RB, but bang on the money. I'll dig out the forum 'about us' / guidelines post and add in what is open to the public, and what to do if a member can't access their account properly * I'm not saying I wouldn't be....I mean, how could I?

My personality is not that dissociative (Yes it is! No it's not! Quiet you two!). As to who it was, my money is on the usual arctic aquatic mammals known for making trouble and bad puns.

It doesn't bother me, and yes it's an accurate representation of the board, if you don't take into account the weirdos who talk about cars all the time
